Head of Finance

Up to £70,000 per annum*

Located in the heart of Suffolk, the districts of Babergh and Mid Suffolk enjoy incredible landscapes, including two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, coastal scenes and conservation areas. Babergh is part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, which includes the Stour and Orwell estuaries, a site of European nature conservation interest, and Dedham Vale and Stour Valley AONB.

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are at the forefront of joint working and are a progressive award-winning partnership. Serving over 200,000 residents across our two districts, we are two sovereign councils, each with a strong sense of identity, but with a shared vision of the future. We have integrated our two councils’ workforces and were one of the first districts nationally to move to a joint headquarters, together with our colleagues in Suffolk County Council and our health partners.

As our Head of Finance and Deputy Section 151 Officer, this is your opportunity to lead the financial management of two ambitious Councils. Both Babergh and Mid Suffolk have retained housing stock and a portfolio of arms-length companies, creating additional variety and complexity alongside the challenge of providing financial services for two sovereign authorities. Reporting to our Director of Resources, your brief will be wide and diverse. Whether you are contributing to the financial expertise that underpins our ongoing transformation, or leading business critical projects that harness the power of digital, or providing customer focused leadership for our transactional services, every day will give you the chance to make a difference.

This Head of Finance post is an exciting newly imagined role across two organisations that are well respected and recognised as cutting edge. Babergh and Mid Suffolk are confident, dynamic authorities, who employ forward-thinking, innovative, and energetic leaders. If you are a professionally qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACMA, ACCA, ACA) looking for a stimulating, career-enhancing role where you can build upon your track record of successful local government financial management, then look no further.

By working together, we are accelerating Babergh and Mid Suffolk towards a brighter, more sustainable and enriching future, for this generation and the ones to come. Come and join our team for double the challenge and double the opportunities.

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are committed to agile and flexible working practices (subject to business need). We believe that work is something we do and not somewhere we go; we want our staff to feel enabled and empowered to fully embrace these opportunities.

For a confidential discussion about the role, please contact our recruitment partners at Tile Hill: Mark Bearn (07747 181490), or Anita Denton (07725 554802).

*The salary quoted includes a potential market supplement, payable depending upon experience and circumstances.
